Adebayo Akinfenwa: Why Gareth Ainsworth was impressed with himAugust 26, 2021
Adebayo Akinfenwa,39-year-old, who will be retiring at the end of the season, was an unused sub in the 1-0 win over Lincoln City on August 21.
He was seen encouraging the players during the match, taking photos with fans, and was acting as a cheerleader in the victory over the Imps.
He said: “I spoke to Adebayo Akinfenwa and said that we’re playing a certain style today, and if we’re winning, you might not get on and he said, gaffer, as long as we win, that’s all I care about.
“He’s totally behind that and it is coaching the others to do that as well, so we have got really good pieces in this jigsaw and of course, we’re going to get knockbacks and whatnot, but, it’s about how you react.
The boss was also impressed with the performance of Anthony Stewart, who led the backline perfectly and helped earn Wycombe their first league clean sheet of the campaign.
He said: “He was awesome.
“A clean sheet is great for any defender and he has got two great players next to him and Anthony himself, we look at him at this kid, but he’s 28, and he’s outstanding.”
