Thiago Alcantara transfer talks underway

Thiago Alcantara is on the verge of securing the signing of Liverpool ,as talks between the player’s representatives and the Premier League champions are ramping up. That’s according to a report in Spanish outlet SPORT, which claims Liverpool could get him for a bargain price.

Liverpool’s coronation as Premier League champions ended with a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City on Thursday night, leaving fans looking ahead to the summer transfer market. Read also: Football players you may not know are brothers

The Reds have spent a minuscule amount in the last two years – their last big purchase coming two summers ago when they splashed out for Alisson Becker and Fabinho.

And as a result, they are expected to dip into the market this year, despite opting against signing Timo Werner for £53million.

According to SPORT, Thiago is close to becoming their first summer signing and is in advanced talks with the Reds.

Thiago, 29, is widely regarded as one of the best centre-midfielders in the world, and has spent the last seven years at Bayern.

In that time, he has won the Bundesliga every year, as well as the Club World Cup and three German cups.

However, tomorrow’s DFB-Pokal cup final against Bayer Leverkusen could be his final appearance for the club.

The Spaniard is out of contract next summer and has told Bayern that he won’t sign an extension.

That meant Bayern were forced to listen to offers for him, with Liverpool at the front of the queue.

The Bundesliga champions reportedly want €35m [£31m] for the midfielder, but Liverpool aren’t willing to pay that.

However, if Bayern won’t budge from their valuation, it remains possible that the Reds will pay in installments.

Bayern boss Hans Flick remains adamant that Thiago will remain at the club next season, however, and refuses to consider the possibility that he will leave.

“I don’t think about it at all, that Thiago could leave us,” the Bayern manager said after last week’s game with Wolfsburg.

“I have always said that Thiago is an amazing player who can give a lot to a team.

“Therefore, I do not think about that at all.

“And I think after such a game and such a season, you have to accept as a journalist that not every question can be answered.”
