Khabib Nurmagomedov says Conor McGregor looks like a ‘scared chicken’ when facing top UFC fightersAugust 21, 2021
Even when Jose Aldo is Khabib Nurmagomedov’s target, Conor McGregor is going to feel some of the fire.
The Russian was asked by a reporter about Aldo’s career resurgence in light of his win over Pedro Munhoz at UFC 265, but The Eagle wasn’t as impressed as most.
Khabib might not be getting into the Octagon anymore but he’s continuing with the fighting talk
He believes Aldo is past his prime and referenced old rival McGregor when making his point.
“How is he showing it?” Nurmagomedov told RT Sport. “He got beat up when he fought … Petr, right? A guy wins one fight and everyone starts talking.
“When Conor (McGregor) fought (Donald) ‘Cowboy’ (Cerrone), he looked like a lion. When he fights stronger opponents, he looks like a scared chicken.
“Fighting top fighters shows your worth… The level of Russia’s football team will be shown against Croatia, not Malta.
McGregor suffered a bad leg break in his last fight against Dustin Poirier
“A fight against ‘Cowboy’ won’t show what level you’re at, just like Aldo’s fight against Pedro Munhoz.
“Let him fight Petr the same way. Then we can say he’s peaking again. You saw what he did. He closed up and waited for the ref to stop the fight. That shows that you’re not at your peak.”
McGregor has only won a single fight – the Khabib-noted fight with Donald Cerrone – in the past five years.

The Irishman had meteoric rise and became the first-ever UFC double champion in 2016, but since then, while he has made a boatload of money, he hasn’t collected many victories.
McGregor doesn’t need to be in the octagon to make money – he’s rich for life. But Khabib believes there are a number of fighters who fight way past their prime for the money.
“If you’re getting hit and you’re conscious and you’re not defending yourself, I call those fighters businessmen. They come out to make money,” he added.

“There are real champions that go hard on everyone. They don’t care (about) the money.
“Of course it’s an important aspect, but he has the competitive spirit. So there’s no way Aldo is having a second peak. You can try to prove it all you want, but I’ve been through this. I know better than you. You’re a journalist, and I’m a fighter.”
Khabib remains active in the sport as a trainer and cornerman for fighters under Javier Mendez at the American Kickboxing Academy.
McGregor is currently sidelined with a broken leg he suffered during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July.
Khabib may be retired, but he plans to be involved in his the careers of those close to him
