How many France muslim players in national team?October 16, 2020
France Muslim players are dominating black football players in French national team. A common trend amongst these players is their parents’ nationality. Every single parent to one of these players is African, specifically northern and western African, two regions renowned for their huge Muslim population.
Arguably the most well known Muslim in the French national football team is Paul Pogba. He was born to Guinean parents and has most likely adopted his religion from them. He currently plays for Manchester United as a central midfielder.
Another well known Muslim in the team is N’Golo Kanté. His parents are Malian, so it is likely that his whole family, or at least close family is Muslim as well. He plays for Chelsea FC in the Premier League currently, as a defensive midfielder.
Ousmane Dembélé is another Muslim who plays for France nationally. His mother is of Mauritanian and Senegalese descent, whilst his father is Malian. He recently moved from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona for a huge sum of approximately £135m. He plays primarily as a right winger.
A fourth French-Muslim player is Nabil Fekir. He is of Algerian descent, a north African country with, once again, a huge Islamic population. He currently plays for Lyon as an attacking midfielder, although many teams have made attempts to sign him.
Two more Muslims in the French national team setup are Djibril Sidibé and Benjamin Mendy. The former plays as a right back for AS Monaco currently. He is of Senegalese descent and is a Muslim. The latter plays as a left back for Manchester City after transferring from AS Monaco for £52m. He is also of Senegalese descent.
Last but not least is central defender Adil Rami. Originally Moroccan, Rami rejected the opportunity to play for Morocco multiple times, instead wishing to play for France. He currently plays for Marseille in Ligue 1.
Note: I only listed those which were selected for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. There are many more French-Muslim players in contention for the national team
