The Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder, Luka modric enjoyed a stellar 2017-18 campaign, helping Real Madrid win a third straight Champions League before captaining Croatia to a maiden World Cup final – a feat that saw him claim the Golden Ball in Russia.
Modric’s coronation marks the first time that Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi have failed to take home the award, which previously overlapped with the Ballon d’Or, since Kaka won in 2007.
Juventus’ Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah were the other players on the final shortlist.
This is the first time since 2006 where a midfielder will win FiFA best men player.
Players like Westley Sneider,xvi Hernandez and André iniesta should have won the coveted prize but was denied because of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi era.
Crowning of modric will give other footballers hope to win it in future. For years strikers have dominated the award making it look like strikers are more important in football team.
Football is a tea sports with the help of each other they win opponent. Without good goal keeper,good defenders and midfielders strikers can’t score goals or win a match.
