Before you tune in to Sunday’s Brasileiro Serie A matchups, you need to see the Brazil Serie A picks from Brazilian-born soccer expert Igor Mello. A managing soccer editor for CBS Sports, Mello was born in Brazil and has covered the top flight of major European leagues, but has a soft spot for the Canarinho. An avid fan of Joga Bonito and the flair that comes with the league, Mello knows the Brazilian game inside and out.
For Flamengo vs. Sport Recife, Mello sees value in betting the under at +105. Flamengo has been prolific in the last month, scoring at least three goals in four of their last five matches (two Serie A and two Copa Libertadores). However, they were also shut out in a 4-0 loss to Internacional.
Now this will be their sixth match in 23 days and Sport Recife hasn’t given up a goal in Serie A play since July 10 (377 minutes). There could be squad changes given the disparity in talent and the fact they played a Copa Libertadores match against Olimpia on Wednesday. All of that could contribute to making this a low-scoring affair.
“They lost 4-0 to Internacional last week and Gabriel Barbosa, ‘Gabigol,’ one of Fla’s most-trusted scorers, was red-carded for taunting the ref,” Mello told SportsLine. “Despite all the high-scoring affairs, I can’t see that continuing with Gabigol suspended and the priority for Renato being getting this team to the Libertadores semifinal.”Watch Brazil Serie A on Paramount+
