Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has mocked
Jose Mourinho‘s claims that Manchester United are at a financial disadvantage and says there are other ways to be successful.
Mourinho claimed he needed more money to make his side title challengers after yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Burnley at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese boss has spent close to £300m in 18 months at Old Trafford and the club have invested nearly £600m since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Wenger operated under huge financial constraints between 2006 and 2013 when Arsenal were paying for a big money move to the Emirates.
Arsenal have since emerged from a period of low spending but Wenger says the Gunners have always been at a financial disadvantage and says Manchester United have far more to spend than they do.
‘I have been in that position for 21 years so I will not start to complain now,’ said Wenger.
‘I have always had one team at least – sometimes four – who were richer than I was, so I learned to cope with that and deal with that
‘What is most important is that you deal with your own situation as well as you can and, yes, Manchester City are richer than us and, yes, Chelsea is richer than us and, yes, Manchester United are richer than us. But I still believe we have to find a way to be successful.
Arsenal continue their Premier League campaign with a trip to Crystal Palace on Thursday but will be without Nacho Monreal and Olivier Giroud.
